Washington Park Community Recreation Center
Rockford Park District
Offers a new membership program to access a variety of recreational activities including after school programs for youth and teens, sports (football and basketball), introductory sessions to tennis, golf, hockey, art, summer camps, special events for families, open gym and league play for adults, a senior social club, and more.
New in 2008
The renovated weight room will feature free weights and exercise machines, along with an adult stepping cardio class, and youth cooking classes with adult mentors from Liberty Baptist Church.
YMCA of Rock River Valley
Hosts the Teen Reach after school program for teens ages 11-15, Monday through Friday, year-round. Provides tutoring, mentoring, homework assistance, and life skills training with fun activities and field trips.
Northern Illinois Food Bank
Serves 40 snacks and hot meals daily to teens and youth. This allows them to have a hot meal Monday through Friday, and continue to participate in evening activities of their choice.
Amcore Bank
An ATM machine in the lobby offers simple banking services for neighbors during Center hours.
Neighborhood Network
Operates a computer lab open five days a week for adults, offering high speed internet access, access to job training, as well as job search and employment opportunities.
Rockford MELD
Will hold Marriage First workshops on Monday evenings, 6-8 pm. MELD's mission is to strengthen families. For more information, please contact Darius Smith at 815-965-8336, ext. 35.
Rock Valley College
Offers on-site GED classes, with another class to be offered in the spring semester at no charge to students. Participants must be over the age of 16 and reside in the Rock Valley College District. For program information, call 815-921-2001.
The Serenity Neighborhood Watch Group
Meets the fourth Tuesday of the month, 6-7 pm. A group of Washington Park area residents meet to discuss issues and how to improve their neighborhood and the surrounding area.
