Classes are offered year-round with offerings such as field science, outdoor living skills, archery, Native American studies, and a challenge course. The Atwood experience is residential, enabling youth and teens to learn about the night-time and daylight world, as well as creating lasting memories. Day programs are also available. We bring our program staff to you to sample outdoor recreation and education in a familiar setting.

Atwood's Environmental Recreation & Education program coordinates high-quality outdoor experiences with existing Illinois State Board of Education standards.

Bring your classroom for our popular residential program, which can be scheduled for 1-1/2, 2-1/2 (most popular), 4, or 5 days. Capacity is 75 students, grades K-12.

Summer Camps

Summer is made for camp! Camp is where your child can make life-long "best friends," explore new concepts, and be challenged and stretched. At the same time, camp is FUN, interesting, and exciting! At the Rockford Park District's day and resident camps, your child can have an extraordinary camp experience close to home, yet miles away from the ordinary.

Every week, Nature Quest offers an introductory camp experience with a different theme. Typical camp activities include outdoor cooking, archery, hiking, singing, games, crafts, and tie-dyeing. To add to the fun, there are weekly field trips, visits by special guests, and live animal demonstrations. Plan on joining us each Wednesday for “Family Night,” and see for yourself how much fun your child had at Nature Quest!
